When Is a Blog Post Not a Blog Post?
Today
Hi, dear people. Today I am deferring my blog post until next Tuesday. I appear to have a very slow internet connection tonight, and I am also moving slowly today.
Next week, I am travelling home on Wednesday and Thursday. So, I will send my final Canary Islands musings the day before I leave, on Tuesday.
Storytelling
I will mention that this evening has been spent “around the fire,” so to speak, with my cousins and their longtime friends regaling us all with stories. The joy and power of listening to natural storytellers — who lived, loved, laughed, and worked in the same small maritime town, with an international reach, for 50-plus years — touched me deeply. I consider these lives and tales to be rare in our more isolated world, where close-knit communities are not as common. Particularly as these friendships also span the next two generations. The gift of these heart-warming, mind-bending, and hilarious stories cannot be overstated, and they will stay with me.
One more thing before I say goodnight. These stories remind me again of how our lives accrue meaning from all those ordinary moments of daily living — the ups and downs, the successes and failures, the crazy and sublime moments of living a life in the company of others, especially our delightful kindred spirits.
“We are born, and we die, and in between we get the chance to keep each other company — and that’s the thing that counts the most.” — John Tarrant
Notes
- The banner photo is a Flame Vine, taken on my regular morning walk.
- In spite of everything else, when we wake up, we are already off to a good start.
- May you be safe and well and courageous, and may you have many small joyful surprises throughout the day.
With gratitude and best wishes, Trudy

Enjoy every minute of your getaway. Sounds like a wonderful heartwarming experience.
Thanks for your note last week dear Sue. I will be home by tomorrow night and I look forward to it. Hope all is well. Warmly, Trudy
Delighted you are still enjoying your trip Trudy and I look foward to having you back next week tho you will no doubt need time to acclimate to frosty Ottawa. Small moments indeed – you may not yet have seen James Crews new poem Small Moments https://janicefalls.wordpress.com/2026/03/18/small-moments-by-james-crews/ but it speaks to just that. Happy and safe travels to you. xoxox
Oh Janice:Thanks for the poem. I am not up to date with James Crews and I love his poems. As always, i appreciate you. See you soon, Trudy
Enjoy your last few days with your kindred spirits.i too am blessed with friends of over fifty years. It was a tribute to Diane Keaton from the Oscar’s and apparently Diane used an old girl guide song as part of her way to live.i remember it well – sung around the campfire. Meet new friends but keep the old; one is silver and the other gold is the first part. What a gift we have to have both.
Thanks dear Jean. I always appreciate your words of wisdom. Warmly, Trudy
Safe travels back home! I look forward to hearing more about the Canary Islands.
Thanks Judy. It has been an amazing trip. Bye for now, Trudy
Dear Trudy…what a gift you are…reminding us of the important things that make us human and that make a human life worth living…connection, stories, family, history, laughter, appreciation of place..it goes on…but the important piece is the ability to SEE what is good. Thanks.
Dear Lynn: Thank you for your heart warming note last week. I appreciate your kindness. Warmly, Trudy
