Postcards from Japan – Week 1
Thoba are long and narrow wooden slabs which are set upright next to graves in Japan. I suggest you click on the banner photo to get a fuller view. I find them interesting.
We have only been here for 24 hours but away for 48. The difference is our 24 hrs of travelling.
Here are a few postcards –
Doorway onto our car in the Shinkensen ( highspeed train) to Kyoto. 456 km in two hrs and 15 min. We spied Mt Fuji (without its top) as we reserved seats on the right side.
Dinner tonight with our good friend Yoshie.
The Kyoto Station steps famous for their light shows. Continuously changing the colours, shapes and design.
A corner in our hotel displaying the Thousand Cranes and the opportunity for guests to fold a crane, insert a blessing for another, place in the basket where they will make their way to a shrine.

It is 9:29 pm on Wed in Kyoto, which is 8:29 am in Ottawa. Wow! I am really early with this post.😊
I already have amazing stories to tell but this week, postcards only.
I have read about the terrible storm in Florida and elsewhere. For any of my readers, impacted, I am once again concerned about your well being. And may all of you, dear readers, stay safe, healthy, and resilient. My crane is for you.

I was part of a Refugee ministry that hung 1000 doves in the Cathedral. I remember being awestruck at the enormity of the accomplishment of each one being intentionally created by two hands in an effort to pray for safe arrivals of each person to our shores. Love your posts Trudy.

Trudy, I love this postcard post, thank you. We visited Kyoto in 2018 while we were living and teaching in China. Japan is such a beautiful country and the people are wonderful. Enjoy your time.
Thank you Mariya. (Do you pronounce your name the same as Mariah?) this was my great grandmother’s name, whom I never met but apparently she was exceptionally kind and she was my mother’s favourite.
